Five people, three workstreams, one marketplace. I kept payments, listings, and pricing from becoming three products.
HerdRight is a livestock marketplace that reached more than 30,000 buyers and sellers and was acquired in December 2025. I led a team of five and kept the scope on the three things a marketplace has to do.
A small team will invent adjacent products: a blog, a social layer, a second catalog. Meanwhile listings, payments, or prices are soft, and the market does not forgive that. Buyers and sellers also pull the roadmap in opposite directions.
I split the work into payments, listings, and pricing, and staffed those before anything else. A request that did not help someone publish an animal, trust the price, or finish paying waited. Status stayed in those three lanes so the team could see a stall.
