A marketplace that had to take money and keep prices honest. I put Stripe and a price refresh into the system sellers already used.

HerdRight connects 30K+ buyers and sellers of cattle genetics. I worked the React, Node, Express, and MySQL stack they were already on, integrated Stripe so a charge survived the browser closing, and scheduled a job so listing prices did not go stale. The company was acquired in December 2025.

Problem

A marketplace page can look finished while money and prices are wrong. Payments had to settle through Stripe, including the states that happen after redirect. Prices in this market move, and a listing that sits for a day is a lie. Sellers were not going to update them by hand.

Process

I kept the catalog they had: sires and embryos as one shape the buyer can browse. Stripe webhooks own the charge after the session ends. A cron rewrites prices every four hours. Both jobs run whether or not someone is watching the site.

Solution

• Stripe in the existing marketplace, with webhooks for the states after checkout.
• A four-hour price refresh so the board matches the market without a person in the loop.
• No second catalog. Two record types, one product the customer already understood.
