I’m Justin Moran, Software Engineer Based in Chicago
I build production software where the interesting part is usually the constraint: a clinical safety rule, a legacy insurance workflow, or a model that has to be graded turn by turn. Iowa State Computer Science, Psychology minor, class of 2026.
Experience
Software Engineer Intern: Shipped a two-sided HIPAA platform to 10K+ daily active users across 200+ clinics. Built the React and TypeScript clinician dashboard, DynamoDB models, and the CI/CD pipeline.
Software Engineer Intern: Engineered underwriting features across TypeScript, GraphQL, and SQL. Saved 4,500+ hours a year with automated data pipelines.
Research Intern: Built bidirectional PyTorch ⇔ JAX translation with GPT-3.5 and BERT compatibility checks.
B.S. Computer Science: Minor in Psychology. Data Structures & Algorithms, Machine Learning, Database Systems, Operating Systems, Networking.
How I Work
Constraints as architecture: Safety rules, consent, and privacy belong in the system design. On-device crisis checks and local-only journals are guarantees; a prompt is not.
Own it end to end: Requirements, data model, API, interface, tests, and the release path. I trace a production bug across layers instead of patching the screen that shows it.
Ship, then measure: Every system gets a number that says whether it works: daily actives, hours saved, latency, or a per-turn grade.
