A livestock genetics marketplace with Stripe payments and a pricing refresh every four hours.

HerdRight connects buyers and sellers of bull semen and embryos. I worked on the React, Node, Express, and MySQL stack, the Stripe payment path, and the jobs that keep listing prices current. The company was privately acquired in December 2025.

Problem

A two-sided catalog in a domain with its own vocabulary: breeds, association numbers, semen versus embryos. Payments had to settle through Stripe, and prices went stale if nobody refreshed them.

Process

The catalog normalized two record types, sires and embryos, into one product shape the UI could browse. Payments went through the Stripe API with webhooks for the states that happen after the browser closes. Media uploads go to S3, and a scheduled job rewrites pricing every four hours.

Solution

• Marketplace on MySQL, Express, React, and Node with auth, listings, cart, messaging, reviews, and seller flows.
• Stripe payments and webhooks so fulfillment follows the charge, not the redirect.
• Cron jobs refreshing pricing data every four hours so the board never drifts.
