Safebite

A food allergy app that filters every restaurant menu by the allergens you pick once, and counts “may contain” as a no.

Safebite is the allergy menu product inside SupperSquad. A diner saves the allergens they avoid, for themselves or a child, then sees which items at nearby restaurants are free of all of them. Restaurants publish their own allergen menus on the other side.

Problem

Finding somewhere safe to eat with a food allergy takes a stack of PDFs and phone calls. Chain allergen charts are buried, local menus often have none, and “may contain” lines are easy to skim past.

Process

Safebite began as the restaurant side of SupperSquad, a store of verified allergy menus. The live product now leads with the diner: who the profile is for, ten allergen tiles, then every menu split into Safe for you and All items.

Solution

• A profile set once, for yourself or a child, that filters every menu.
• Cross-contact counted as unsafe, with Contains and May contain chips still on each item.
• A restaurant tool: upload a menu, mark allergens in a matrix, publish with a QR code.

Results

• 10 Allergens tracked, as published
• 100+ Chains with allergen menus, as published
• 4 States per allergen in the data model
• 1 Profile filters every menu
